SCIENTIFIC DISSEMINATION - PPGTAIR members present papers at the 32nd Brazilian Congress of Microbiology .
Prof. Dr. Maria José Soares, a permanent researcher at PPGTAIR, participated in the 32nd Brazilian Congress of Microbiology, in Foz do Iguaçu-PR, which took place between October 18th and 22nd, 2023. The aforementioned researcher presented papers and was accompanied by her master's and doctoral students. Among the papers, the research entitled " Investigation of gram-negative bacteria in microbiota of collared peccaries : applications of the MALDI-TOF thechinique " stands out, which had the participation of students, such as doctoral student Marcos Leonardo and other researchers from the Program such as Dr. Lilian Catenacci, Dr. David Germano Scharwtz, among others.

INTERNATIONALIZATION - PPGTAIR Coordinator meets with researchers from York - UK .
PPGTAIR Coordinator (UFPI) met with researchers Daniel Jeffares and João Cunha, from the University of York, United Kingdom, Alexandre Reis (UFOP) and Daniella Bartolomeu (UFMG) to align the execution of the project in collaboration between researchers and institutions entitled " Building capacity in Brazil to apply genomic methods in disease research ". The meeting took place at UFMG, from March 28 to 31, 2023.

INTERNATIONALIZATION - PPGTAIR will integrate a research project in the United Kingdom.
The research team of Professor Dr. Maria do Socorro Pires e Cruz was selected to join the project "Building capacity in Brazil to apply genomic methods in disease research ", coordinated by Dr. Daniel Jeffares, from the University of York, United Kingdom. The PPGTAIR will represent UFPI, together with the Federal Universities of Ouro Preto (UFOP), with Prof. Dr. Alexandre Reis , and Minas Gerais (UFMG), with Prof. Dr. Daniella Bartholomeu . The study will use quantitative genetic analysis to identify genetic loci that alter the severity of visceral leishmaniasis in dogs, and compare them with what is observed in human patients. The parasite load in the blood of dogs will also be quantified , as a measure of potential transmissibility. This will help determine whether virulent strains in humans can survive undetected in asymptomatic dogs and be transmissible .
INTERNATIONALIZATION - University of York, United Kingdom, will fund the training of a PPGTAIR doctoral student
The University of York will fund the travel of PhD student Jackellyne Geórgia, supervised by Professor Maria do Socorro Pires e Cruz, to receive training from March 6 to 10, 2023, in person at the university in the United Kingdom.
PRESENTATION
The Postgraduate Program in Technologies Applied to Animals of Regional Interest - PPGTAIR was created by a group of professors working in the broad area of Veterinary Medicine, but with a broad interface with biological areas, health and related areas. It began its activities in March 2019 with two courses, Master's and Doctorate. The selection process is annual. It has experienced professors, with national and international experience.
The Program was conceived with the mission of promoting scientific, technological and regional innovation development in a sustainable and ethical manner through research activities. To this end, it seeks to enable the gathering, articulation and adherence to complementary, cross-cutting and related themes through the Concentration Area “Advanced Diagnostics in Animal Health”, which is integrated with the main objective of developing and applying modern processes in the different branches of veterinary medicine. In this context, the Program focuses its efforts on comprehensive research involving studies on the technology of foods of animal origin, which allow microbiological and technological investigation of industrial processes that impact animal and human health, extending to immunopathological and molecular studies of parasites of interest to regional epidemiology and public health. Furthermore, the improvement of reproductive biotechnologies, the genomic study of unconventional animals and the genetic improvement of herds that constitute production chains relevant to the regional economy, as well as approaches to clinical diagnosis of diseases and innovative therapies in animal models, including cellular biotechnology and materials science.
